• HCSR Family Physicians Hail Patient Care Benefits; Court Order Overturns Medi-Cal Payment Cuts | TradingMarkets .com 08.20.08: Family physicians today are commending Monday's order by a federal district judge that overturned the State of California 9;s 10% cut in fees to physicians who see the 6.5 million patients covered by the Medi-Cal program. "The judge agreed with our evidence that patients would suffer if the payment cuts were allowed to stand," said Jeffrey Luther, MD, president of the 7,000-member California Academy of Family Physicians (CAFP). The physicians learned of the ruling late yesterday.

Medi-Cal is California 9;s Medicaid program (Yamamura/Sand ers, Sacramento Bee, 8/20).

• Medicare buoyed by demo success after audits collect $700 million | American Medical News 08.18.08: A limited three-year trial of a new type of Medicare auditor hired to track down overpayments to hospitals, physicians and others restored nearly $700 million to the program's coffers even after paying the contractors� 39; expenses, according to a July report. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, which released the report, is preparing to phase in a permanent, nationwide version of the initiative ordered by Congress.
